"In light of the increasingly pro-privatization climate of the CMA, it is more important now than ever that we elect a true advocate for the universal and equitable health care that we have all made a commitment to uphold. Dr Turnbull’s innovative approach in addressing the needs of Ottawa’s homeless population is a testament to his ability to seek means of optimizing the current system despite considerable obstacles. As a medical student, I am proud to endorse a candidate who is willing to be vocal in his defence of the collective right to health care and who is committed to seeing our publicly-funded system finally reach its full potential." Dr. Vic Neufeld

"In my work in global health, colleagues all over the world regard Canada as the "model" for accessible and effective health care. Jeff Turnbull is unquestionably the right person for the CMA leadership at this time, in part because this Canadian legacy is under threat. I strongly endorse his candidacy based upon 20 years of work together, initially in medical education (where he was a core member of the EFPO team—the project that led to the Royal College CANMEDS roles for physicians), and more recently in international health. At the core, he is totally committed to evidence-based and equitable health care for all Canadians. And he “walks the talk”, as demonstrated in all aspects of his clinical leadership. The cross-cutting features of his remarkable track record include innovation, coalition-building, persistence, and goal-oriented system change—all based upon a foundation of clear and strong personal values. I can’t think of a more qualified candidate to lead the CMA. Let’s make sure it happens."

Dr. Neufeld is the National Coordinator of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research. He is Professor Emeritus at McMaster University where he served for most of his academic career as a general internist and in various educational leadership roles, including Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
